Online Marketing for Therapists

You cannot sell a secret. Plenty of skilled therapists are effectively invisible to the people searching for exactly what they do. Tim Cassidy holds an MBA alongside his counselling qualification, and this is two and a half hours on being findable, from the directory listing to the website to the search terms.

You cannot sell a secret. It is the best line on this subject and it describes the actual problem: a good number of skilled, well-trained therapists are effectively invisible to the people searching right now for exactly what they do. The work is not the issue. Being findable is.

Tim Cassidy is a licensed professional counselor who also holds an MBA and spent fifteen years in organisational leadership before clinical practice. He runs a private practice and co-owns a group practice, so the advice comes from someone who has had to fill a caseload rather than from someone who studies marketing.

Two and a half hours, and it starts where it should, with deciding who you are actually for. Trying to appeal to everyone is why most practice marketing produces nothing, and the niche decision drives everything after it. Then the practical layers in order: what a directory profile needs to do differently from a website, what has to be on your site and what can wait, reviews and how to build that reputation properly, which social platforms are worth your time and which are not, and a realistic content approach for someone who does not have hours a week to give it. He finishes on search: how to find the terms people are actually typing, how to see what is already ranking, and what to do with that. He is also clear about what to do yourself in the beginning and what to hand over later, which is a more honest framing than most of this material offers.

You’ll walk away with

  • Choosing a niche and defining your ideal client, and why everything else fails without it
  • Getting found in a saturated market, where a dozen practitioners are competing for the same search
  • What has to be on your website and in what order, and what can wait
  • Writing a directory profile that reads as a person rather than a list of modalities
  • Building reputation through reviews, and doing it in a way that holds up professionally
  • Choosing which social platforms to be on, and giving yourself permission to skip the rest
  • A posting mix that keeps people following you rather than scrolling past
  • Calls to action, and what to actually ask a reader to do
  • Branding basics for someone starting with more time than money
  • A content approach that does not consume the hours you need for clients
  • Search engine basics: finding the terms people search, checking what already ranks, and using both
  • What to do yourself now and what to hand over once the practice can afford it
  • Sample privacy and consent documents for an online presence, included with the course

High-achieving professionals struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, and work-life balance - and practitioners wanting to develop successful private practices while serving achievement-oriented clients - can need more than traditional approaches to address the unique challenges faced by driven individuals who appear successful on the outside but struggle internally. Timothy Cassidy has built his career around this intersection of business acumen and clinical expertise, becoming a sought-after expert who understands both the mindset of high performers and the business strategies needed to build thriving therapeutic practices.

As CEO and Co-founder of Online CE Credits and Licensed Professional Counselor specialising in high-performing individuals, Cassidy brings unique expertise that bridges business leadership with clinical practice. His MBA from University of Central Oklahoma combined with his MA in Mental Health Counseling from University of Missouri–Kansas City, demonstrates his exceptional ability to excel in both business and clinical domains. His 15+ years of federal government leadership experience, including roles as Program Analyst and Logistics Management Specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration, gives him deep understanding of high-pressure professional environments and organisational dynamics.

Cassidy's expertise spans anxiety disorders in high achievers, trauma and PTSD, ADHD assessment and treatment, family systems therapy, business psychology, and what he calls "achievement-oriented therapy" for driven individuals. His approach recognises that high-performing clients often face unique challenges - including imposter syndrome, perfectionism, work-life integration difficulties, and relationship issues stemming from their driven nature - that require specialised interventions from someone who understands their world. He specialises in working with executives, entrepreneurs, graduate students, young professionals in transition, and practitioners wanting to develop both clinical excellence and business success.

What sets his training apart is business expertise combined with clinical insight. Cassidy doesn't just teach therapy techniques - he shows practitioners how to build sustainable practices while understanding the specific needs of achievement-oriented clients. His development of Online CE Credits demonstrates his ability to create successful businesses that serve the mental health community, while his clinical specialisation reflects deep understanding of high-performer psychology.

For your practice, expect to gain specific techniques for working with high-achieving clients, tools for building successful therapeutic practices, and frameworks for understanding the intersection of business psychology and clinical work. His approach particularly benefits practitioners wanting to specialise in serving professionals and executives, those interested in practice development, or clinicians seeking to understand how business principles enhance rather than compete with therapeutic excellence.

Quick Win: Cassidy's "achievement recalibration" technique helps high-performing clients identify when their drive becomes counterproductive - helping provide relief from chronic stress while assisting them to channel their achievement orientation more effectively toward both success and well-being.
